How To Apply An Iron-On Name Label For Clothes
How to Apply Iron-on Name Labels for Clothes
For a permanent solution, especially on items without a care label like socks, follow these instructions carefully.
Step 1: Prepare Your Iron Preheat your iron to a medium to low-high heat setting (●● or 160-180°C), typically the setting used for cotton. Crucially, ensure the steam function is turned OFF.
Step 2: Position the Label Place the item of clothing on a hard, flat surface like a table or worktop. Avoid using a padded ironing board as it will not provide enough resistance. Decide where you want to position the label and place it with the name facing up.
Step 3: Cover the Label Place the silicone paper (usually supplied with your labels) over the top of the name label. If you do not have silicone paper, a thin, dry cloth like a tea towel will also work.
Step 4: Press with the Iron Press the hot iron firmly down onto the silicone paper, completely covering the label. Hold it still for 8-10 seconds. Do not move the iron around as you would when ironing clothes; apply firm, stationary pressure.
Step 5: Allow to Cool Remove the iron and allow the label and surrounding fabric to cool down completely. This allows the adhesive to set into the fabric fibres.
Step 6: Check the Bond Once cool, try to peel one corner of the label with your fingernail. If it has bonded correctly, it will not lift. If an edge does lift, repeat steps 3 and 4, perhaps applying slightly more pressure or for a few extra seconds. It is advisable to wait at least 24 hours before washing the garment.
